While Hero’s Maestro range of scooters was always considered to be the sharp and edgy scooters young buyers crave, the Duet, on the other hand, was more suited towards the elderly. A few months ago, Hero showcased the new Destini 125 at the Auto Expo 2018, and it appears to be somewhat similar to the latter.
With the Destini 125, Hero has forayed in the 125cc scooter segment. It might be late to the party, but a 125cc scooter coming from India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer doesn’t exactly translate to good news for other manufacturers.
The production-spec Destini 125 is exactly similar to the one showcased at the Auto Expo 2018. Since it borrows its design cues from the Duet 110cc scooter, it caters to buyers looking for a family scooter. Hero has, though, made enough changes to the design so that you won’t mistake it for its smaller sibling. So, is the Hero Destini 125 the family scooter you need? Here’s an overview.
Engine
While the engine shares the basic architecture with the 110cc motor from its smaller siblings, Hero has made changes to the bore and stroke. The result is a 124.6cc air-cooled motor that is capable of churning out 8.7bhp and 10.2Nm of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheel via a CVT automatic transmission. Right from the get-go, there is enough grunt in the low-end and mid-range to easily pull the scooter. The throttle response is, in fact, very impressive. The refinement, though, isn’t as good as some of the other scooters in the segment.
Specifications
Even though it shares some styling bits with the Duet 110, Hero has made some aesthetic modifications to make the scooter look more premium and expensive. As far as dimensions go, the scooter is 1,809mm in length, 729mm in width and 1,154mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 1,245mm and the ground clearance at 155mm. Moreover, it has kerb weight of 111.5kg.
Fuel tank capacity
The Hero Destini 125 mileage, as per our sources, is 54km/l. The fuel tank capacity, however, is a decent 5.5-litres.
Mechanical parts
On the whole, the ride quality of the Destini 125 is pliant without being firm or unsettling. The handling is nice and agile to fit this scooter in and out of city traffic. For the mechanical parts, though, the scooter sits on a high rigidity under bone type frame chassis. The braking hardware comprises 130mm drums on either end. Both the tyres are 90/100-10 in size. The suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and single coil spring type suspension at the rear.
Features
As far as features are concerned, the Destini 125 comes with the brand’s i3s start-stop technology, which, further aids the fuel economy. For the safety net, however, the Destini comes equipped with CBS (Combined braking system) as standard. The instrument cluster is also a bare-bones unit with an analogue tachometer, a small digital display and some tell-tale lights. As for the electricals, the headlamp and taillamp both miss out on LEDs.
Colours
You can grab the Destini 125 in four different colours: Chestnut Bronze, Nobel Red, Pearl Silver White, and Panther Black. We had a chance to test out the Destini 125 in the Nobel Red shade, which, in our opinion, is sure to appeal to the sophisticated family buyers the Destini 125 aims to cater.
